I am taking a 3 week cruise. Does Skype work from Italy, Greece etc. to call the US? Will be calling landlines and mobiles. My hotel has Wifi (not free), also the cruise ship has Wifi hotspots (not free). I have an unlocked cell phone, would I be better off with a world sim card?

If you are just using wifi, then yes it will work fine unless the cruise ship or hotspots are filtering out Skype. However, I have looked into wifi on cruises out of North America and it was not anywhere near cheap. Not sure how much it would be on a European cruise...

Also, if the cruise line acts as the telephone carrier and you cannot connect to a land-based antenna, the connection costs are reported to be expensive, regardless of the SIM you use. If you can reach land, though, a local SIM might be better than a pricey wifi connection.

Thanks for the info. Has anyone had any experience with gobal sim cards? Are any of them better than the other?
