I've just bought an unlocked phone and have been looking at the price of SIMS cards. I found one for $20 with 10Euro in calls preloaded. Local calls are .15 per minute and calls to US .08. Is this a good price or can I do better when I get to Germany?
That's a good price, but I would be a little suspicious of a card whose calls within the country are more expensive than international calls. What company is this with? Have you read all of the fine print? Some travel SIM cards use a callback system - you call a number, enter the number you with to call, then hang up. When the call is connected, your phone rings and the call is there. Make sure you understand the rules of the SIM before you buy it.
If the calls are more expensive locally, then it usually means that it is a call routed through a third party line, usually through India or Indonesia, and the quality may be horrible. I saw it on Dateline!
