My husband and I are taking our first trip abroad - to Italy. Are there restrictions that prohibit wearing open toe shoes in the churches in Rome? I plan to take just one very good pair of walking sandels. Is that a good idea?
This was back in 2005 when I went to Rome, but I wore open toe shoes to all the churches. They are beautiful dressy shoes. I never had a problem at all. I don't think they even will look at your feet. Just your shoulders!
I would take at least two pair of well broken-in shoes. Sometimes your feet like a change of pace. I take 3 pair of comfy favorites.
Darlene - there are no restrictions on open toe shoes in churches in Rome. For summer trips to Italy I always bring 2 pairs of walking sandals and wear them everywhere.
Toes are fine, just no knees or shoulders.
Sexy toes are ok,, just no sexy shoulders or knees,,
I always take one pair shoes, one pair sandals and one pair runners. I sometimes throw in another pair of sandals as they are so small and flat they are easy to pack,, unlike my poor hubby and his size 13 feet, those shoes are as big as check in bags themselves! LOL
Well......monks have worn them for centuries and I can't say that I've ever seen one turned away! LOL But do cover the shoulders and knees, and make sure your husband also wears slacks, and no caps. Have a wonderful trip!
I always take a pair of sandals, and a good pair of walking shoes. Cobblestone streets and ruins can be heck on ankles, and its' nice to trade off to the shoes every now and then.
Hi Darlene, I think one very good pair of walking sandals would do. I was in Rome last July - all I wore were my Chacos and they were perfect. Ciao!
