I am traveling to Europe in late Sept/early Oct. I will be as far north as Paris, through the Swiss Alps and south to Rome. I am having a hard time deciding on taking two pairs of shoes or one pair of shoes and one pair of (walking)sandals. I know that no one can predict the weather accurately but I would like to hear personal experiences from people who have traveled at that time of year.
I've taken walking sandals to Rome that late in the year and been very glad to have them. I doubt I'd want them in Paris or Switzerland that time of year.
I'd bring the sandals. September can be warm in all of those places. For the last 5 years, I've worn athletic sandals on most days while traveling in Europe and that includes days when the temperature was in the 50s. I just wear socks with the sandals on the cold days.
I was traveling the same time last year. In Barcelona and the south of France I wore sandals every day. I got to Paris and the sandals got packed away. I would take a pair of each.
Hi Carol, I have practically the same itinerary, leaving Sept 14 and returning Oct 1, same countries. I was planning to take Ecco walking sandals, and a pair of lightweight mary janes that have an athletic sole. I just ordered a pair of Smart Wool medium weight socks that I can wear with either shoe, if needed.
I appreciate the responses here, as I was having the same questions as Carol.
Last trip we went mid-Sept to early Oct, France thru Italy and Switz...I only took my Blundstone boots and really regretted it...I almost bought sandals while we were away...my feet got sooo hot in some places....def pack sandals!
