Shoes and Squeaks

Hi,
Since you were all so helpful with my sore toes and shoes thread thought you could help with this problem.

Ok I have a pair of Keens that now that I have switched to non cotton socks, and thinner ones my shoes have been great! No more sore toes or blisters.

So I have put in new orthodics because I have somewhat of a flat foot. They feel wonderful but notice that when I walk the make a sort of sqeak noise in the heel area when I step. It's quite anoying. What can I do to make this stop? Do you think the inserts are to big?

Thanks,
Wendy

You could try putting a little powder between the orthotics and the shoe. Once both are better broken in, the squeak should stop.

Baby powder, foot powder, corn starch or baking soda should help. If not, what about using super glue to secure them?????

Were the orthotics off-the-shelf, or custom fitted?

Hi Tom,
They were off the shelf. They weren't cheap ones either. If that is what you're getting at. My feet feel 10 times better with them, they seem to speak a little in the heel area when walking.

Wendy,

I wear a richie brace which is an orthotic with an ankle brace attached essentially. They squeak terribly. As the above have said, baby powder really works. If you prefer not to sprinkle the powder in your shoe they make a ladies foot lotion with baby powder in it which can be smeared on and allowed to dry. It lasts longer than the powder, but everything stays white.
