Greetings!
I would like to ship my car to Europe for 6 months. I have pretty much got the information regarding the shipping part. Can anyone help me with custom and duty and paper work needed in Europe as I am getting conflicting information. I most likely will have the car shipped to Netherlands or Belgium. It seems like if the car is shipped back within 6 months I don't have to pay duties. However, i was told that a deposit of (27% to 30%) value of the car will be held. Is that true? If any one has experience of having a car shipped temporarily to Europe I would really appreciate your insight . Thank you in advance.
We had a friend that spent a couple of years working in Europe and his company shipped his Lexus to Belgium. He ended up selling the car rather than bringing it home upon his return.
I assume you already have a Visa--to get around the Schengen Agreement of 90 day max in the EU?(
The biggest auto importer/exporter I know of is Trissl Sports Cars. Maybe they'd be able to shed some light on what the regulations are, and who a good shipping broker is. They're at (256) 766-0911.
Most people going for long visits will just lease a car either through one of the French auto manufacturers or AutoEurope.com. Most are picked up in France, but they can arrange them to be dropped off elsewhere.
Hire a Customs broker that knows how to issue a Carnet.

The shipper is not able to provide the info or point you to an official source?

I would contact the local embassy of whatever country the car is being shipped to and find out what id necessary to do what you intend
You have done a cost analysis to determine the expense and bother of shipping is really the best solution? Your car is compliant with EU regulations regarding emissions, lights etc.? You have figured out the insurance while there?
