When we finally do make our travel plans (hopefully still end of April), I'll be bringing with me a large package that I would like to ship to Rothenburg asap, so I don't have to schlep that thing with me on the trains. Does anyone if there's a UPS or something similar located at FRA? Thanks Bill
Use the Deutsche Post. They have an office right next to arrival hall B-1. Half the price of UPS and probably quicker. You could also see if the Deutsche Bahn would ship it for you on the train.
Danke, Jo Are there size limitations with Deutsche Post? Dimensions of this package (bass guitar in case) are: 112 cm x 76 cm x 21 cm and the weight is 12kg. Thanks Bill
Bill, your bass case exceeds the max. dimensions of a standard package (120 cm x 60 cm x 60 cm), but is inside the "Sperrgut" (bulky goods) envelope (length + 2width + 2hight < 360 cm, max length 200 cm). So sending it with German mail/DHL will cost 11.90 Euro for a package of 10 to 20 kg plus 23.80 Euro "Sperrgut" charge for a total of 35.70 Euro. See: http://www.dhl.de/en/paket/privatkunden/national/paket.html
Thanks to both of you for the reply. The Deutsche Post and DHL are together? So if I take the package to the post office at the airport, they'll handle akk the paperwork and then just turn the package over to DHL for transport, is that correct? Thanks again! Bill
Bad news: The package the bass is in doesn't fit within Continental's 62" overall dimension guidelines for cargo baggage and will cost $150.00 to ship in the cargo hold. So now this has become a bit awkward. I'm giving the bass as a gift, but had not expected this unforseen circumstance. I am looking into the possibility of re-packaging, but boy, that thing really is packed securely for travel! LOL! Bill
Update: That Continental flight is operated by United, so this package will travel under United's baggage policy (right?). United's baggage policy is way different and now I'm not so sure I can travel with that thing without buying it its own seat. The dimensions just miss their regulated 62 overall linear inches by 6 inches.
