Serbia and Albania?

I am considering hitting these two countries someday, they both look gorgeous. I was looking at pictures of Tara and Durmitot National Park in Serbia and Lura National Park in Albania. Are there more national parks there worth visiting, castles, montaseries? Anything worth seeing besides Tirana and Belgrade? Thanks!!

We spsnd 3 to 4 weeks a year in central/eastern Europe and are always looking for New places. We looked real hard into Serbia, Montenegro and Albania for a trip in June. Had it all mapped out then decided to play it safe with a fishing trip across Bulgaria / Istanbul / Budapest. So the best i could do would be to send yoh my notes if you are interested. The trip was also somewhat centered on fishing.

I don't know how adventurous you are prepared to be but I went to a talk last month by John Pilkington who had just returned from a walk across three countries Kosovo, Albania and Montenegro.
The scenery looked breath-taking but it might take some organising to do the trip. I enclose the link to the walk http://www.peaksofthebalkans.com/index.php?lang=en

Hi Brendon, my niece lives in Belgrade and loves it. Here's what she recommends:

In the Southeast region of Serbia, I'd recommend Uvac and Zlatibor for natural beauty and movie director Emir Kusturica's created-for-film village, Drvengrad/Mecavnik. Sopocani, outside of Novi Pazar and also in that region, is, in my opinion, Serbia's most beautiful monastery. Studenica and Zica monasteries, going toward Belgrade, are also worth a stop. East of Belgrade, and on the Romania border, is the Djerdap gorge and national park -- the road from Belgrade is fairly interesting, passing by the old Golubac fortress and the Lepenski Vir archaelogical site. North of Belgrade, Serbian's second city Novi Sad with its much stronger Austro-Hungarian influence can be worth a stop, as with the vineyards of Sremski Karlovci, and Subotica, near the Hungarian border.

One the best things about Serbia is its slowly developing village tourism -- often in a beautiful natural setting, with delicious home-cooking, local brandy, and maybe even music. The Sumadija region is most well-known for this, but if you are planning on the Tara and Durmitor parks, I would recommend exploring options in Zlatar (near Nova Varos).
