Sent Messages

When I send a private message, there is no way to check if it really went. Sometimes I am not sure if I sent all the info I meant to. I thought the webmaster was going to fix this a couple of years ago.

Webmaster, if you are there, can you comment, please?

Yep, it is very annoying not to be able to see our own replies or original message until we get a reply.

I agree. Please fix it, webmaster. Also can you please fix how the older messages on the same thread get narrower for some reason?

I asked about this some time ago. There is one way you can see your message and that is if the other person responds. If they receive your message, even if it is in response to a question from them, and do not respond to you, your message is hidden. I checked some of my previous private messages and those with responses from the other party show all messages and those with no responses do not show my answer to their question. Charlotte, as you said, t his is annoying because sometimes I can't remember if I've answered them or I don't know if my response was actually sent.

The easy solution is to send a quick PM to the person to whom you think you sent an email and ask if you sent them an email about yada yada yada or did you just think about sending such an email. I actually did that and it resolved any question.

It's one of the most maddening things about PMing people on this site...the only way you can see what you wrote is if the person you were responding to, replies. I have accidentally rewritten a message to someone who PMd me on several occasions, thinking I hadn't sent a reply yet...it seems like an easy fix to me.

It's good to see I'm not alone in this - I always thought I was doing something wrong with these and I worried that I'd failed to respond or failed to hit send on my response.

Wow! Nice to see I am not alone.

Now is there any way to contact the webmaster?

I thought they've mentioned before they were going to fix this, but it's been a loooooong time...

It has been metioned as I did ask about it quite some time ago and it was mentioned that next time the website was upgraded they would try and put a fix in so folk can see sent messages.

Thank you for mentioning this, I recently have spent a bit of time replying in great detail to a PM and then wanted to double-check something, thought perhaps it hadn't gone through.

Hi all,

Yup, we've stated that this is a feature that we want to build into our forum. We still don't have a timeframe in which we'll be able to deliver this. My apologies that I don't have a better answer for you as our list of priority work is long. We'll get there. Thanks to you all for your patience.

Many times I've PMd people and, when I realize there are going to be multiple emails, I've given them my home email address and suggested we use regular email so I can keep a record of what I have already told them.

My slight annoyance is when people don't respond back to your message. I've replied to a few people who PM'd me about a restaurant or places we've stayed - I take the time to reply back with said info and a few times haven't even gotten a 'thanks.' Did they get the message? Was there a glitch? Did I erase it instead of send it?? Why did I just take 30 min out of my day to reply to someone who didn't even acknowledge my reply? Just a 'thanks for the info' would be nice. I mean, in the end, I'm still glad I could help...but I always make sure to thank anyone who took time out of their day to help me with a private question.

Pat, the reason some people don't thank you (and others) for info and advice, is because they were brought up by beavers.
