We are 3 seniors who would like to make 1-day daytrips from Brussels to neighbouring cities/countries. We're not into museums. We love sightseeing. London and Paris are among our choices. Can anyone advise any where in Germany or the Netherlands?
Definately stop by Bruges, although it requires more than a day to adequately explore. The university town of Leuven (home to some magnificent Gothic buildings and a fantastic cafe culture) is less than a half hour by train from Brussels. The outdoor folk-museum of Bokrijk (between Hasselt and Genk) is an under-touristed gem. Maastricht in the Netherlands is also worth a pleasent day-trip if you have the time.
How about Amsterdam and Cologne, Germany. Both are 2-3 hours and great for sites.
I second the recommendation re Bruges. It is very picturesque...
Luxembourg City is a short day trip from Brussels and the 'hop on - hop off' busses & Petrusse Express 'train' make it easy to explore.
Trier Germany is also a short day trip. It offers many well-preserved Roman and medieval buildings.
Cochem Germany is about 3 hours from Brussels and in the heart of the picturesque Moselle river area. It's a great place to sample some local wines.
A big second to Bruge, Trier, and Cochem..I would even suggest an over night in Cochem
I also suggest Brugge and Trier. Both are close and great places.
Agree.
1st choice - Brugge
2nd choice - Trier
Thank you all for your suggestions! We do have Brugge on the list. We will do some reading re other suggested cities. Thanks so much again!
