I read that if you are over 65 you can go to the museums free of charge in Florence. Is this also true for Rome? Can you get reserved tickets as a senior or do you need to stand in line on the day of the visit? My husband and I are both over 65 but not sure how to go about getting these tickets
You don't unless something has changed recently. The free admission is restricted to EU Pensioners. Or at least that was our experience a couple of years ago. However, in Spain as long as you are over 60 you get in.
Citizens of the EU who are under 18 or over 65 get in for free in many Italian museums. However, if the museum offers a reservation service for a fee and you want to use it you still have to pay for this small fee even if your actual ticket is free. When you pick up your free tickets be prepared to show ID to proof your EU citizenship.
I haven't tried Senior Citizen discounts. I did run into issues in Italy asking for reductions for my children. I was informed that they were only for EU citizens. I only recall experiencing this in Italy.
