security socks

Has anybody used the zip it security socks? Are they comfortable ? Do they hold up? How much can you put in them ?

My neighbor started using the over-the-calf model a couple of years ago and swears by them. He actually has a system where he keeps his passport and big cash in his left sock and drivers license and atm/credit cards in the right. He loves 'em. I still can't bring myself to give up my RS money belt. I think he only paid $15 for each pair and he says they're pretty comfy and the material wicks away moisture and dry quickly come wash day. When I was a kid traveling through Europe I used to stuff my passport and cash down my tube socks. Why didn't I come up with this idea? I clearly failed to grasp my "pet rock" moment.

Stick with your money belt or pouch worn under clothing, put the stuff you absolutely can't afford to have stolen in there. Then no worries about that the whole trip and you can focus on relaxing and having fun.

Hi Suzanne. I agree with Kent. But if you want to have an extra place to put paper money in, the security socks are not bad. The pockets are small, I would put a small amount of paper money in it. Those socks are less comfortable than cotton socks, I think those security socks in the National Geographic catalog are the best. Be careful to not let the socks shrink when they are laundered. I prefer a leather belt that has a zippered compartment for paper money on the inside. Mine is a Mens' belt. And I guess those belts are made for women.

suzanne, I've looked at the "Security Socks", but don't think they'd work for me, as they probably wouldn't stay in position if doing a lot of walking. Also, anything placed in the socks would have to be inside a zip-lok Bag, otherwise the contents would probably get somewhat "damp" from perspiration. Cheers!

I would think the money belt or pouch sold on this site (at 12.95) would be a better bet. Because unless you are going to wear the same pair and launder them in the sink each night, wouldn't you have to buy several pair of them. It seems kind of expensive to me.

Ed, I have a feeling that the guy who invented these used his socks to stash his stash in his ill spent youth. Glad he found a way to turn his life around!

Thanks for the info. Guess I'll stick with the moneybelt.

I dreamed about security socks last night after reading these posts... remind me to stop at something... less socky, before going to bed. :)
