Secure Luggage Protectors?

http://www.pacsafe.com/www/index.php?_room=3&_action=detail&id=11

Has anyone used these? I think they're something like steel nets that you wrap around your bag, lock, and secure to a stationary object.

Is this practical? Or will it just make me stand out as a target? Should I invest in one or just get some clips to attach my bag to a luggage rack, etc.?

I'm a woman traveling alone, lots of train time and night trains.

Thanks for any help!

Renny...While Pacsafes are effective against opportunistic thieves, they are so darn heavy I don't think you'd want one. If I were in your shoes, I'd just use some sort of clip which it takes a few moments to undo and maybe a thin cable like you'd use to secure a bike.

I'd do the same thing. All you need is a little something to discourage a would-be thief. They'll go on to an easier target.

I think it is overkill. When I travel I am only trying to prevent the grab and run type of theft. At that level any type of cable lock will do. I am not too worried about breakin and theft of contents because the luggage will not in a location where that is highly possible. I use soft side luggage so it will be possible to cut it open but I think that is fairly remote. I would not be interested in the steel nets.

Hey y'all!

Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it. I don't think I'll get one - seems like a hassle and it would really stand out. And I didn't check until you said it - but the net itself weighs over a pound! There'd definitely be no way to 'blend in' with one of those around.

That, and I'm up for using the 60$ for something else entirely!

Thanks, all!

Apparently, they are made for back packers as added protection and weigh 1 lb 1 oz.

Do whatever makes you comfortable and secure. I prefer the fanny and day back that has the wire constructed in the packs.

a good sturdy pack thats water proob and heavy/strong material might be enough. I have a packsafe wallet with a chain attached to my pants/belt (had to shorten the chain a bit). I also have a pack-safe camera strap (which helps since id didnt advertise - NIKON - all over it! the big lense doesnt do much to help me be discrete - but when unused its in a non-camera-looking-mini-messenger bag. remeber - darker colors for your pack so you dont stick out (unless you going in the alps or remote areas where bright jacket may be good idea!)
