Seats in airports

This may sound like a crazy question, but how comfortable have the chairs in airports been?

I have medical problems that lead to great pain if I sit in a straight-up chair. The few times I've been in airports, that's all they had- and their chairs were torture for anything over about 10 minutes.

The last time I was in an airport, I actually laid down on the concrete floor. It was more comfortable (although some people didn't like me laying on the floor)!

I'll be going to Italy (Sicily) this summer, and it would NOT be fun to be forced to wait in an airport for any length of time- that is, if the chairs available are like what I've encountered before.

Any suggestions about this potential problem, if the norm is hard, straight-up chairs?

I think the airports have installed seats that are ergonomically comfortable. The science has come a long way. If not, lie on the floor & don't feel embarrassed.

Bob,
Some people sit in wheelchairs b/c they find the seats uncomfortable. Sounds strange to some but it has helped some people, especially those with back issues. You could always ask if one is available?
