Seat reservation on Euro City trains?

Hello,
In the next few days I'll be travelling from Italy to Switzerland on the train. I have a Swiss Travel Pass, so I was thinking that I would simply need a ticket from Milan to Chiasso and then continue on from there on the same train to Zurich. I noticed that it is not possible to reserve a seat on the EC train. Is this normal? I am looking at the EC 20 route from Milan to Zurich. Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

If you buy a ticket from Trenitalia (Italian Railways) from Milan to Chiasso it will include reserved seats.
Once the train crosses onto Swiss tracks, Swiss rules apply and you don't need a reservation. But, you will already be sitting in a seat, so you are "sitting pretty" (couldn’t resist the pun).

Hello,
Just wanted to say that I tried doing this yesterday and it worked perfectly. I'm currently enjoying Switzerland. :) What a great way to travel!
