SE Asia travel - Lorazepam okay in carryon?

I am wondering if it’s okay for a person to travel to Vietnam and Thailand with lorazepam (for flight anxiety). Do you know if there will be a problem with security taking a prescription bottle of this to SE Asian countries? Or where I could find out the information?

I would check with the respective consulates to avoid any issues as you would not want to run afoul of the laws in those countries.

In general, Asian countries tend to be much tougher on bringing certain drugs in than what you might experience in Europe for example.

I would agree that you need to contact the consulate. I found some information online that described a process where for Lorazepam (what they consider a Category 4 drug) you need to have a document from your Doctor containing specific information (not just a prescription) and you are limited to 30 days worth of meds.

Here is what I found: https://permitfortraveler.fda.moph.go.th/nct_permit_main/Upload/Guidance%20for%20Travelers%20who%20travel%20into%20Thailand_10.8.22.pdf

What applies to you looks to be in section 1B. As was mentioned, it is worth contacting the consulate, or looking on the Thai FDA site to see if there is more updated information.

For Vietnam, probably much the same advice.

How many tablets are you taking along, like 5 tablets? I can’t see that that small amount will cause problems. There should be directions printed on the label that say something like “Take 1 tablet as needed for anxiety (flying)” and that should explain everything.

This is a pretty subtle drug, hard to abuse. So a controlled substance but near the bottom (schedule 4, Ativan).

Thank you Paul and Tom. I think my daughter will be fine as she is only taking 10 pills in its original prescribed bottle. I appreciate your information.
