Scottevest Jackets

Since I prefer travel in the shoulder/off-season (no summers), I usually take a jacket with me.

Has anyone used any of the Scottevest Jackets with their myriad of "hidden" pockets. This seems like a great way to carry "stuff" in cooler/colder climes without lugging a daybag. Of course, I'd still wear my moneybelt.

I'm thinking of the Scottevest Evolution.

I own the Microsuede jacket that Scottvest makes for travelsmith.com http://tinyurl.com/2ef6kb I love this jacket! It's very well made- excellent construction, and very functional; and yes it does eliminate the need to carry around a day bag. But it's all about the pockets, it's not designed to keep it's owner warm. For warmth you will need to use layers.

The only problem is that they have perhaps too many pockets--I have the vest and took it with me when I knew I was traveling a "one bag means one bag" discount airline. I have to say, the trickiest part was figuring out which of the twenty or so pockets held which stuff!

I have a similar version from Magellan's in the vest style. I love the vest. I have seen the one with lots of pockets and decided it was too much of a good thing. Not only could I not remember which pocket, it would soon get heavy.

Hi Frank. I think 20 pockets in a travel jacket is too many pockets. I have not seen any travel jacket on the market now that I would want to wear. I like my travel jacket, made by Ex Officio in the year 1998. But they stopped making it. I suggest : look in the catalogs of Sierra Trading Post, during the next four months. And, because you have a hobby of collecting travel bags, you might like to look at a shoulder bag, in the catalog of Sahalie. They make a printed catalog (color photographs) and they are on the internet at www.sahalie.com The bag is the "Scrubbed Canvas Gear bag", item number 77022. Dimensions : 11" x 12" x 3 1/2". A rugged cotton-canvas bag, lined with cotton poplin cloth. It has a shoulder strap (detachable) and big padded handles. It looks similar to an old European or Australian or South African Army bag. Made in Australia. I think it is the perfect shoulder bag for hiking at the Alps. Cowhide trim, solid brass hardware. Canvass color : dark tan. It is well made, durable.
