Schiphol - Non Schengen to Schengen transfer time in 80 or 105 min

I am looking at two flights for November from New York to Paris and they both connect through Amsterdam with KLM. However, all seem to have really low transfer times and we also have checked baggage (unsure if they are transferred automatically?). I also saw that we only have to pass passport control to get to the Schengen gates. Are these doable/recommended?

The two options are:
- NYC (5:50pm) -> AMS (Land 6:50am, leave 8:10am) -> Paris (Land 9:35am)
- NYC (9:30pm) -> AMS (Land 10:40am, leave 12:25pm) -> Paris (Land 1:40pm)

The earlier one is preferred because we might want to start the trip in another city close-by and end in Paris instead.

Generally, transfers go relatively quickly and smoothly at Schiphol, but you never know. If it were me, I'd take the 80 minute layover just to be on the safe side.

And as long as it's on the same ticket (and it sounds like it is), your luggage will be transferred to the 2nd plane, which is another reason to opt for the longer layover. There's nothing more frustrating than you making the connection but your bag gets left behind.

Thanks for the advice! I actually forgot to update the title, it's actually choosing between 80 and 105 minute layovers. The 50 min layover was originally to Lyon but I removed it because it was a really short amount of time.

Even better - I always like at least a 90 minute layover and 105 minutes should work well for you. My answer still stands - I would go with the longer layover.

Btw, you can update the title now. Just click "Edit" and then change the numbers in the title.

We have been through Schiphol several times. 80 and 105 minutes are pushing your luck. I suggest checking KLM for flights from Schiphol to Paris that depart later in the day in case you don't make the earlier flights, there will be others available.

I go through AMS a few tines a year. This week took 15 minutes, then I got pulled out for a search for some reason ... another 10 min. A month ago about 30 min to get through. Last year once took about an hour, once maybe 30 minutes.

Still, I would give it a try with a 90 min layover if the savings were good. Otherwise, I would go for a longer one and camp out at the asian bar if I had spare time.

Regarding layover time, I have always been under the impression that planes will wait for bags (if bags are not missing, for example) but will not wait for the person. So in other words, you don't have to worry whether the bags will make it onto the plane you transfer to. You only need to worry about yourself getting on the plane. The only exception is if you have to collect your bags during the transfer (e.g., go through immigration and custom), then you do have to worry about the bags.

Is the impression incorrect?
