hi, i have booked an appointment with swiss embassy and my personal interview is in few days. however, i booked an appointment based on my tour agency who had a group tour with an itinerary with maximum stay in Switzerland. however, now they tell me that while traveling from Switzerland to France, we will stay on the France side, thus essentially changing the maximum number of nights to be spent which is now in France, which was earlier Switzerland. what should i do now? i don't have much time to reapply in France embassy.
Without knowing your citizenship and planned length of stay, leaves for a great guessing game on what to advise you to do.
i am indian citizen, on j1 visa in usa. i arrive in germany on day 1. stay there overnight with the tour group. day 2 we sight see in germany and then switzerland. stay in switzerland overnight. day 3 in switzerland. day 4 we sight see in switzerland (geneva) in day and stay in a hotel across the border i.e. in france. day 5 and 6 in france, and day 7 we have our return flight from france in the evening.
can you advice something now
AFAIK the rule is you apply to the country you will be staying in most of the time, or if in doubt the country you will be arriving in.
I suggest you contact the Swiss Embassy and tell them the situation. peoples plans often change. Probably they will accept it and still give you the visa.
thank you for your advice on contacting swiss embassy. however, as i have a personal interview at the consulate, do you suggest writing to them right away or telling the situation during the personal appointment?
I just went through this with a citizen of a less than popular country; entering a less than liberal country. I wouldnt worry about Swiss vs France. You are entering through Switzerland and I am guessing that will be enough (yes, just guessing). More important I would think would be to make sure all the paperwork and supporting documentation is 100% perfect. We added a letter from the individuals employer substantiating her character, a cover letter (found a this recommendation on line) and organized the paperwork in a way that made it easy for the reviewer to find everything. They said two weeks to process and the visa came by overnight mail in exactly 2 weeks - 3 days prior to the flight!!
thanks james. i hope it works for me as well
