Schengen question

I even have the calculator and still having a hard time.
We enter Schengen April 18. We need to go back into Schengen on September 1st.

How long can we stay on the first visit in order to return in September on the first (we want the max allowable time)? How long can we then stay in September?

April 18 to October 15 is 180 days. Within those dates, you are allowed to stay 90 days (including entrance and exit days). Since September falls within that period, the total of your April days and your September days must be no more than 90.

That also assumes you haven't been in Schengen prior to April.

Assuming you have not entered the Schengen area in the previous 180 days, you could enter on 18 April and stay until 15 July, which would be 89 days.

You could then enter again on 1 September, which would be your ninetieth day in 180 days, but you would have to leave on 1 September.

The 180 days is a rolling period, in any 180 days, you can't stay more than 90 days.

I only checked for 90 days on entry on April 1st.
If you stayed 90 days you would leave 6/29. You could then return to the Schengen on 9/28.

Thanks, very helpful.
So if I stay 60 days on our spring trip, then I have 30 days in Schengen for the fall trip, correct?

I would leave a day earlier on your fall trip, just so you have a bit of leeway and don't accidentally overstay. FUN!!! Where are you going???

Sandancisco, lots of places, so I won't bore you with our whole itinerary. But the September trip is with friends and we are doing a bike/barge trip in Hungary and I don't have the dates for that yet, so that is the complication. Then we want to do 2 weeks in Rome, first visit.
