Schengen Clarification

Hello, I'm looking for a bit of clarification on the Schengen Policy.

If I spend the first 90 days out of 180 in the Schengen, then spend the following 90 days in the UK, will that qualify as the wait time to reenter Schengen on the 181st day? Or do I need to wait another 90 days after the prior 180?

Thanks!

Sophia

Thank you Laura! I had read the same thing as you did, however found that it could be interpreted either way. It's amazing to me that such an important and possibly impacting policy can have so much grey area.

I have just found a calculator for this on the EU site and it does back up your statement. Thanks again for taking the time to answer my question!

Here's the link if anyone else needs it:

Sophiat, that's a very good link. Since these are EU rules, I would trust the EU site.
The US government site incorrectly states the rule as "a period of three months within each six-month period", it is actually 90 days in 180, and both your arrival and departure date count.
You can of course break it up, 45 days, then a gap, then another 45 days. It is a rolling 90 days in any 180. So 45 + gap 90 + 45 is also legal, but your counter does not go to zero, you would still in that case have only another 45 days.

Yes. It's 90 days in, 90 days out. Your case is actually quite simple. It's people that go in and out repeatedly that makes keeping track very difficult.
