Has anyone downloaded the maps and walking tours to their I device? Do I need a separate app to save the maps? Sorry this is new to me.
If you have an iPad2 and a physical guide book, you could simply use the iPad's camera to take a photo of the map. That's the simplest solution, and free, too.
I have done so David. The maps download as PDFs. I use a Xoom tablet (android) and I acquired an app that is a file manager that organizes the downloads.
David, A few possibilities to consider..... You could download the iPad versions of the Guidebooks, which include the Maps along with Rick's walking tours. Many of the books are available as E-books. If you want just the Maps and Walking Tours, you could scan them from the books and store as PDF files. Docs-To-Go is available for the iPad, and that will provide a PDF Reader (along with the capability for Word, Excel and PowerPoint files). Good luck!
So it looks like you can open the maps and save them as PDFs to iBooks. I saved the walking tours to podcasts. That should work so we can see the maps and hear the tour.
Since you have an iPad it seems to me that the easiest would be to download the Rick Steves Audio Europe app from the iTunes App store or from this website. I believe its free. Then you can download various walks, etc., again from either site, to your device and they become chapters or tracks in the Audio Europe app. Get 'em all or choose the ones pertinent to your trip. It worked well. We use the app Air Sharing for documents like maps and so on.
Enjoy!
