Has anyone used a Galaxy tab in Europe lately (specifically Italy)? We just bought one for our trip in September. Madly learning t. Should we expect any problems? Won't use 3G, just WiFi hot spots. Any app suggestions? Thanks
Gary, I don't own a Tab (Galaxy or otherwise), as I prefer the keyboard and data storage capabilities of a Netbook. As the Galaxy is able to use Wi-Fi, I wouldn't expect operation to be any different than that of a Laptop/Netbook or iPad. I'm not familiar with Galaxy App's so unfortunately can't offer any suggestions. Happy travels!
Assuming the Galaxy works like most Android-powered devices, I'd load the e-reader software. There are free versions that handle books in the public domain and then there are the ones to display ebooks you have purchased. I'm partial to the Kindle one from Amazon. I can't recall if the Galaxy has a speaker (or camera), but if it does, I'd load Skype on it, too, and set up a Skype account for cheaper calling options. For email, the free program K-9 Mail works great on my phone. I assume it would work on a tablet, too. MapDroyd uses maps loaded onto the machine, but it isn't that easy to use and lacks all the bells and whistles of Google Maps. Its big advantage is that you don't need a data connection to use it once you've downloaded the maps you want. A file browser to let you see what you have loaded in stored memory is useful, too. On my phones I use Astro Pro. These are a few of the programs I use on my phones so I don't know how they'll appear on a tablet sized device. Let us know what you end up using and which were helpful. Thanks.
