Looking for hotel recommendations in Salzburg Austria
Go to the "Go to the West" forum. This subject was recently a thread on that forum.
Last month, I stayed at Hotel Rupertus in Freilassing, which is in Bavaria. It's just a short (10 min, maybe) walk to the Freilassing station and then 8 min by train (€2,10) across the river to Salzburg Hbf. A double room is €55. The website is only in German, but Herr Chudoba speaks good English.
Fred,
You might have a look at the Hotel Goldene Krone in Salzburg. It's in a nice location and the owners are great. The Church across the street sometimes rings Bells at odd hours, but I didn't find that to be a problem.
Cheers!
If you want to splurge, try the Goldener Hirsch. It is in the heart of Old Town and has been a hotel for many (hundreds?) years. We went there for our 30th wedding anniversary- it was really lovely.
The Hotel Elefant is in the old town district, just around the corner from the Getreidegasse (the famous pedestrian street where the Mozart Haus is located) and a short walk to the Salzburg Cathedral. We've stayed there on two separate trips and were happy both times. Very centrally located, easy access to shopping, museums, etc... Parking will be an issue, though.
x2 for Hotel Goldene Krone. We like the location and the noise of the church bells didn't bother us. Plus Gunther (the owner) really knows his city.

Same here on Hotel Goldene Krone.
I would also suggest the Hotel Goldene Krone. It's a great location, good price and great breakfast.
