Sale on for Interrail Passes

Interrail has a sale on currently for their passes, until 1000 CEST on 1 October.

They have 15% off passes valid for under a month, and 50% off 1 to 3 month passes- that means a monthly is generally cheaper than a 2 week pass (a hark back to the original roots of Interrail, as a student grand tour of Europe).

Reductions are automatically applied-no need for a code.

Once purchased they will be valid for 11 months. With the price being so much lower anyway than the former Eurail now may be the time to buy for a good value 2027 deal.

For Senior Passes (over 60) 1 month 1st class is £353, 2 months £419 and 3 months £485. The senior 2nd class is £272/£323/£374 respectively, so 1st class is excellent value.

Eurail has been renamed to Interrail now so it is worth checking.

The Eurail and Interrail products have merged, with the Eurail brand (and it's higher pricing) having been abolished. So everyone now buys Interrail.
Existing Eurail passes are still honoured.

I've quoted prices in £ because that is what I have ready access to, but the prices are much the same in any other currency, depending what conversion rate is being used (whether a static rate or a live rate).

The three month pass is basically £6 a day in 1st class, so even if you travelled for only half that time (and often got only 2nd class trans) it would still pay. There are also single country passes in many instances. For instance 8 days in a month in Hungary adult price Euro 183 in 2nd/238 in 1st (so 30 euro a day). That is the longest duration for Hungary.

We always talk about fast train supplements, but the original point of Interrail was exploring. If you aren't just racing from tourist hot spot to tourist hotspot I'm certain you could still get from London to Budapest/Bucharest, Stockholm or Barcelona/Madrid (as examples) without paying any supplement or reservation fee. And I. at least, would have a wonderful time in doing so, visiting less well known places on the way. Heading east you may have to pay a sleeper supplement beyond Bucharest, and Morocco may be hard to get to with no supplement.

I sounds like Interrail will become the pass of choice to eliminate the point to point purchases if you plan on making many train trips on your vacation. I looked at the prices and if you are vacationing for a month, it would be hard to pass up the Interrail pass because of its unlimited flexibility.

In this one isolated example which may or may not be the norm let me throw out 2 concerns that might impact the economy of the pass.

  1. If you are 65 or over the train is free.
  2. You will be hardpressed to find a 2nd class ticket for over 20 euro; and not every route has 1srt class.

Not sure tge second is a deal breaker. Depends on someone's plans.

Great news here !

Good that the passes have this 11 month validity, almost a year to doing the trip after purchase.

The Senior Pass offers an additional discount , so for me getting one with a 2 month validity fits my travel needs next summer, ie, specifically a Pass covering June and July, the 2 months of the trip.

By the way I saw a You Tube video from someone today claiming to have done the longest possible continuous train ride in the EU - from Kemijarvi (Finland) to Lagos (Portugal)- one of the more respected rail you tubers. The journey was completed in around 125 hours.

Unfortunately that is not true (he must have chosen the easiest to access by air at either end) - the longest journey is actually from Nurmes (Finland) to Vila Real de Santo Antonio (Portugal).

It is certainly a challenge, but needs to have the correct parameters.

This brings back great memories of Britrail and Eurail days in '77...
