Just curious if anyone else got a private message from a saffron dealer in India, offering a great price on this spice? I am wondering if thesent it to everyone or only a select few. Sounds like a good deal if one needs massive quantities of saffron. ;)
Because you seem like a lady who knows a thing or two about good saffron?
Yes, I got the PM that was a saffron ad.
Nobody needs a massive amount of saffron. Just a tiny, tiny pinch does it in a dish.
San Gimignano is famous for their saffron.
Not me yet, Lola.... Sounds like one for Webbie. And all you're trying to do is plan a little traveling and they want to turn you yellow ;-(
Thanks David, but that was not my question. I have plenty of excellent saffron from my last trip to Spain. I got a spam PM from Mr. Mehfuz or something like that in Kashmir. He must have registered on this site to sell saffron. But he is not advertising openly on the board, instead sending a private message. I wondered how many others got a similar message. So I am still curious.
Sorry Nigel, I didn't see your post earlier. He probably knows better than to try to sell saffron to someone in England, home of the best Indian food! I thought I would see if he contacted anyone else before reporting to the Webmaster. Maybe he has a lot left over from the HolinColor Festival celebration. But I doubt they use expensive saffron for throwing around.
Remember that PMs are not private from the Webmaster. Clearly the vendor is smart enough to try to fly under the radar using PMs. Not so smart though if you have reported him.
I didn't get a PM trying to sell me saffron.
No pm from him, but that is a diagreeable thought that vendors could use the pm to sell to us or send spams.
Did he ask for your SSN, DOB, and bank account numbers? Is he related to a Nigerian prince? :)
Nope, nothing phishy like that. He just states, "I deal with 100% pure kashmiri saffron. Its purity is guaranteed. You can even conduct lab test on it to check its purity. Kashmiri saffron is known as the best saffron in world. I will provide you the supreme quality of saffron at reasonable price. Would you like to purchase." And then his email and phone number in case I wish to purchase. I think it is sincere and an innocent mistake in using this webiste to advertise. But I am surprised that he sent it only to one person here. Why me????
Thanks, Brad! Now I wonder if he just chose to message people who post about Spain, the land of best-quality saffron?
I didn't get one. I'm thinking maybe he did a search on terms like: cooking, gourmet, foodie, spices, spice market, etc. to find likely people to PM.
I think I found the trigger (via advanced google search). Lola and Brad, you both responded to this post Buying Saffron in Spain
Hmmm. Not one of those words would lead to me, and probably not to Brad either. The only search terms that would bring up both of us would be words associated with Spain, like Toledo, Alhambra, hostal, Barcelona, etc. I "might" have advised someone on the purchase of saffron threads in Spain at some point in the past, but I'm not sure if it was on this board. Maybe the spice merchant just prefers people with 4 letters to their name. EDIT: BINGO! Laura found the answer. Good sleuthing. Thanks for solving the mystery! I'll leave this up for everyone's amusement for a while, then delete.
They call him Mellow Yellow.
@Karen, You are always so funny!
No saffron but i did findout recently that I am the direct decendent of a recently deceased Nigerian prince.
