Sacramento Travel Meeting - Saturday January 18th @10 a.m.

Happy New Year!

It's that time again to meet with fellow travelers to talk about --- travel!! As always, we meet the 3rd Saturday of the month at 10:00 a.m.

Location- Panera Bread 3571 North Freeway Blvd. Sacramento This is off I-80, using the Truxel Rd. exit.

Everyone who wants to discuss their upcoming trips, reminisce about past trips, or just hang out and talk about travel is welcome.

So my question is...who plans to be there?

Happy New Year, Everybody!!!

I'll be there...and hopefully minus this lingering cough :-( At least I won't be bringing any germs. I killed 'em. Finally. Stooopid cold.

I still fall in the 'reminisce about old trips' category (sniffle, sniffle).

That's okay Eileen. Look at the bright side, at least you have old trips to reminisce about!

Yes, I do. And I like to fascinate the younguns with my stories about the olden times ;-)

Hey! I'm planning on bringing a perfectly nice jar candle I received as a gift (berry pomegranate spritzer)...but it's just not doin' it for me. First person who wants it, gets it 8^D

Don't tell my sweet niece.

Hello all. I've been following the Sac RS group threads for a couple of months and am finally going to come to the next meeting. My husband and I are planning a trip for the fall and any insight or advice we could gain from the group would be great.

I look forward to meeting you Ashley! If you can tell us where you're going we can bring the appropriate books, maps or whatever to try to help you.

We are starting by going to Oktoberfest as part of a small tour group touring Bavaria and some of Austria. We are then going to Vienna, Venice, and Rome. Most likely will do a day trip from Vienna to either Prague, Bratislava, or Budapest and a day trip from Rome to see the Amalfi coast, Naples, and Pompeii.

It's all right Nigel. We will set up our own meeting the next time you come this direction, with gifts of candles, prizes, and German bread instead of Panera.

Nigel, a couple years ago, we had you in our meeting via Skype. If you have an Apple product (PC, iPAD or iPhone) with Facetime, this is much better. If yes, send us your ID and we'll bring you in with Facetime.

Larry, I Facetimed with Nigel last weekend. Nigel, if you're free at the proper time we can do it again.

We will be there, or at least I will be. Monte maybe sailing that day since our California weather is really springtime!

I need help with Paris and Loire. Look forward to it!

Hi Andrea,

I think it would be great to reminisce about my trip to Italy, discuss an upcoming trip to Austria, Germany and Italy in September and meet new travelers. I will plan on being there!

Hi, Ashley and Joan! I'm glad you're planning on coming to our little get-together.

Jo, that sounds great. Maybe we need to have some themed meetings...Of course, the alphorn will have to stay outside of Panera ;-)

Now Dagnabbit, Rick! (Or Rick's 'people') You KNOW that we Helpline peeps meet on the 3rd Sat of the month. Why do you schedule your Tour Guide Reunions for that weekend? We'll have to have a short meeting this month so that I can watch the live streaming. I don't know if we are actually capable of having a short meeting, though...

[Sorry, Larry - I actually had you in mind for that candle ;-) ]

That's great information Larry. Thanks for sharing. Who wants to go? I do! I do!

I got to see and hear Rick Steves speak when he was in Orinda California a couple months ago - first time I've been to one of his engagements, and he was fantastic!

Nigel et al,

You can also use Google+ for video calls. I've been told it works better than Skype, but haven't done a personal comparison yet. One of these days, I'll have to figure out how FaceTime works.

Hope you have a great meeting! I'll hopefully be at the RS tour reunion that day.

I am on Google + but have never done a hangout.

After speaking to Andrea the other day I'm sold on Facetime. I've happily used Skype for years but never done the video.

I'd be happy to drop in for a time.

I'm going to Jo's meeting if she's supplying brotchen. Can't find it here in the U.S. I hear first timers get a pack of REAL gummi bears to boot!

Looking forward to seeing you Nigel, if only in 2-D!

@ Nigel

Let me know what time works for you to FaceTime with us. I can call you from my iPad if you would like. That way the call won't come in on my phone.

@ Jo

We will be in Germany in October. We fly out of Frankfurt on the 20th. Maybe we can have a meeting on the 19th? It's not the 3rd Saturday, but it is the 3rd Sunday! My plans in Germany will depend on my relatives, but we will definitely spend Sunday night in Frankfurt because we have a 10:15 a.m. flight.

It looks like we have a lot of people planning trips!!

Andrea, the 19th is all yours. Noted in calendar, and maybe we can get a few more people to join us for the first German Travel Meeting.

Bumping this to the top!

Have a great time Sacramento!

I'd be more comfortable trying Facetime one day since we didn't have good luck connecting with Skype!

Thanks for the bump Sharon! I hope you guys have a great meeting. We can definitely try FaceTime.

@ Jo, it would be fun to meet others as well. Will you be providing the same prizes you offered to Nigel? ;-)

@ Nigel, we will have our own meeting in England!

Bump, bumpity-bump, bumpity-bump-ti-doo...(and thanks, Sharon and Darcy!)..

Yeah - we can plan a Road Trip to Santa Clara! Right now, it's $10/pp for the travel fair for Sat.; we can even see Rick twice in one day ;-) My husband has a play date with one of his friends on Sat, so I have no plans...;-)

Why the h^#@ don't we have our Sacto Helpline T-shirts yet?!? Dagnabbit!

I already purchased my $10 ticket and plan to go on Saturday. If you are really nice and bring the limoncello, you can go with me and Susan. ;-)

It's not too late. How long do you think it would take?

I have a 9:30 medical apt in Roseville but hope to come and visit afterward.

I was really looking forward to attending the meeting tomorrow, but I'm at the end of that nasty cold/flu going around and don't want to bring it to all of you. :-( I'm planning on attending the Travel/Rick Steve's event in Santa Clara. Hopefully, I can make it to the meeting in March, I will be working the third Saturday in February.

My trip is in the fall so I have time. Have fun!

I don't think I'll be able to make it tomorrow, unless I can miraculously shake this bug that my son passed onto us during his winter break. (It started Tuesday evening, and it ain't pretty.) I'd feel terrible if I gave it to anyone. Sounds like I'm going to miss a lot too, but will have to catch up at next month's meeting. Hope you all have fun!

Joan & Donna,

Sorry to hear you're both under the weather. Feel better soon and thanks for not coming to the meeting sick.

Oh no, Joan and Donna! Well, my awful cold symptoms started Christmas Eve, and while the horrible 'official cold symptoms' were over in about a week, I'm still congested (although I haven't needed a tissue in days - Yea!), and my stamina is AWOL :-( I'm getting there, though, but I hope you don't have an illness trajectory like mine. I'd prefer the Helpline meeting to be another week away, but I'll gather the strength to get there tomorrow...I think...;-)

I hope everyone else stays healthy! And GET YOUR FLU SHOT!!!

Andrea, I don't think Susan and I really get along all that well, so a road trip together sounds like a terrible idea ;-)

No Eileen, I'm fine with you. And you liked me until I started objecting to you bringing all 20 plus cats wherever we go. A dog lover can only take so much!

Woof!

We had another great meeting with a big turnout. I think about 13 or 14 of us were there. Some of us plan to go to the Travel Show in Santa Clara (see Larry's link above) next Saturday, if anyone is interested in meeting us there.

Sorry we couldn't work out FaceTime today Nigel. Maybe next month!!

Andrea,
My husband and I are planning on going to travel show in Santa Clara Saturday. PM me so perhaps we can text one another and meet in person.

Karen and I have exchanged phone numbers. If anyone else is going and would like to try to meet up, let me know. I plan to go the Rick's first talk of the day. I think it starts at 10:30.

How was yesterday? I was sorry I couldn't join you... I'd love to hear all about it!
