Sacramento Travel Meeting - Saturday August 16th @ 10:00 a.m.

It's that time again to meet with fellow travelers to talk about --- travel!!

As always, we meet the 3rd Saturday of the month at 10:00 a.m.

Location-
Panera Bread 3571 North Freeway Blvd. Sacramento. This is off I-80, using the Truxel Rd. exit.

Everyone who wants to discuss their upcoming trips, reminisce about past trips, or just hang out and talk about travel is welcome.

Who's planning to be there?

OH! If you'll be taking the Eastbound I-80 exit from I-5, Be Sure to stay in the far right-hand lane! Your exit to Truxel Rd is the very next right, and if you're not in the far right lane, you'll get forced to drive all the way to Reno...or thereabouts ;-) (OK, you'll be nowhere near Reno, but you will be several exits down the interstate) There'll be road construction for the next couple of years on both directions of I-80 :-(

Good point about the construction on east bound I-80. Once the lanes split, if you're in the left lane you're forced to stay on the freeway until the Longview exit at the earliest. And you'll only get off there if there isn't anyone merging in from the right lanes. Otherwise you have to stay on until Watt Ave.

Thanks for the driving tip !! We still have to use GPS to find our way.
We're set for the travel group in San Rafael this Saturday and in Sacramento on the 16th. May need to buy stock in Panera.

I'm hoping to be there... I want to hear all about Susan and Monte's trip and to see kat before she leaves on her Great Adventure! Great tip Eileen, thank you!!

Susan, bad news. Susan & Monte won't be there. It's their anniversary and for some strange reason they want to celebrate it somewhere other than Panera. I don't get it... :-)

I will be there. I had it in my head that the third weekend was the 23rd when I will be in Fargo. I know if I divided 23 by 7 I should have had a clue. Please bring Paris anything to help me plan the trip that was spawned at our July meeting. I have plane tickets, and will likely have a room booked by our meeting. Now I need the help of my fellow travel addicts to be told where to go and what to do, sort of like the emergency broadcast system.

As for I-80. If you are coming from the west, take Business 80 / US 50 towards downtown Sacramento, then take I-5 north. Get off at El Camino and go east to Truxel Road and turn left. Take Truxel over the freeway and then follow the usual route, you will miss all the backup and the traffic lights are fairly quick.

If you are coming from the south, also get off at El Camino and follow the same directions.

Those heading east after the meeting, you can take Truxel north, becoming Natomas Blvd, to Elkhorn and turn right to get out without the freeway mess. This is not fast, but moving is better that crawling and nobody seems to be able to drive on Saturdays.

Eileen, will the Rangers be mathematically eliminated by the time of our meeting?

We will be in Lake Tahoe but wishing we were in Lake Como or elsewhere! But, Lake Tahoe still beats Panera Bread, even though we will miss all our fellow addicts, it is our anniversary :-)

I'll be there to discuss our upcoming train ride on the Rocky Mountaineer out of Vancouver. We'll be visiting Kamloops, Lake Louise, Banff and Calgary and then flying home. As part of this train tour, we begin with 2 nights in the Fairmont Hotel in Vancouver. Then, they take us off the train each night and motorcoach us each way to and from a hotel. Not sure about the hotel in Kamloops but in Lake Louise, Banff and Calgary, it will be in a Fairmont Hotel. We depart Seattle on September 6. Not shabby.

Wow... My anniversary will be in two weeks - the day after out Panera meeting. Unlike some people, I'll be there ;-)

Guess some of us just care more than others...

A big Howdy! to the Astor House in London!

Good call on the route, Kevin - it was my original plan to point that out, but it's been very distracting around here lately and I rarely finish anything I start these days :-(

"Eileen, will the Rangers be mathematically eliminated by the time of our meeting?"

The who? ;-) Maybe next year...

Hey fellow travel addicts,

I have booked an apartment in Paris through Airbnb. Now for the planning of what to see and what not to bother with. So far, all I have done is make a list of the days different places are closed, so that I don't go there that day. For those of you in the Sacramento Group, please bring your 5 must do's in Paris list. Others, feel free to share your ideas. My wife and I are going for Thanksgiving week, sans kids, for the first time with them all off to college. My wife has never been to Paris, and I was last there almost 30 years ago.
We know Versailles and museums are on the list. Those are front door must do's, but what else? What are the back doors that we RS types love?

@Kevin -- how many days? When? What have you already seen?
My plan:
Walk around
Eat
See impressionist paintings (Orangerie, Orsay, Marmatton)
Look at Eiffel Tower when it's sparkly
Seine river tour

Uhhhhhh...in full disclosure, my anniversary is the Sunday a week after our meeting (typing while tired is dangerous). Even so, I would never let a little thing like that get in the way of our little gatherings. I guess some of us are just more committed to the group than others... ;-)

Kevin, I'll work on my Paris must-dos! #1: You must bring me along. #2:...

You go, Kevin!

Meeting? Depends on my packing status.
I keep getting highjacked by things that aren't due until November. Yeah, I think there's a diagnosis for this! Oh! The cat hasn't been brushed ....(while suitcase sits open & empty)......

I hope you can make it kat.

Kevin, we will do our best to help you with your Paris plans. Larry has a good book about the markets, so hopefully he will bring it. I took some notes from it. Now I just need to find them!

See everyone tomorrow!!

Meeting went way too long and cut into my packing time. So, if I end up in Amsterdam with no undies, it's your fault!

Eileen, get your bro twirlies over here and help me pack!

Happy to see the BAC (Bay Area Contingent) could join us! See? You don't have to worry about our starting time. We'll still be around when you arrive, even if you had to traverse the state!

Happy trails to Jim & Andrea!

Sorry we had to bail after only four-plus hours ... next month maybe I can pack a sleeping bag and stay later. Bon voyage to all the travelers. Even the ones short on underwear.

Sausalito Susan, you've been hanging out with Eileen too long. Y'all know what I mean. FYI y'all is singular. All y'all is plural. This is according to my Texan in-laws.

It was good to see everyone. Have a good trip kat! I'll be gone for the next two meetings, but I'm looking forward to seeing everyone at the November meeting. Of course I've got people to meet up with in Europe in September and October first!!
