It's that time again to meet with fellow travelers to talk about --- travel!! As always, we meet the 3rd Saturday of the month at 10:00 a.m. Location- Panera Bread 3571 North Freeway Blvd.
Sacramento This is off I-80, using the Truxel Rd. exit. Everyone who wants to discuss their upcoming trips, reminisce about past trips, or just hang out and talk about travel is welcome. This meeting may be shorter than our usual 3 hours or so. Most of us will be involved in something Rick Steves related later in the day. I'm not sure if I'm at liberty to discuss it at this point, but we may need some more bodies. Information will possibly follow... So my question is...who plans to be there?
Let's see-it's 4/20, it involves Rick Steves, and you don't want to discuss it publicly. I know what I'm thinking...
LOL!!! Still LOL!!! Ya never know...I DID try it a few times; even inhaled. Was paranoid the next day and didn't like it. I've seen lung cancer x-rays; not worth it. But those two fluffy, white dogs our neighbors were walking the night before looked soooooo cooool and soooooo white...duuuude... Oh, and I'll be there ;-) I'll bring munchies.
Doritos? Not that I would know anything about that...
And the limoncello is so lemony.
So Monte - is this thread going better than last month's?
Munchies? Great! I hear Eileen is buying the toast at Panera and will bring in jars of Nutella for our munchies. (She got a great deal on it in Berlin.)
(shhhhhhh...)
We will be there! Can't wait! It will be great to see Rick....oops... I mean, it should be a great meeting.
"Local Italy" - heh-heh! The Getty's on my short list...
The Getty is great. Unfortunately I was there with someone who has a short attention span. I definitely need to go back!
"The Getty is great. Unfortunately I was there with someone who has a short attention span." Never cool... :-( That's why I prefer to do serious shopping or wandering through museums ALONE.
I didn't have a choice. I took my brother to L.A. He has Down Syndrome and when I take him somewhere we do what HE wants. He loves to travel and has been to Europe, where he discovered art museums. I took him to NYC 3 years ago, where he wanted to go to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. He wanted to go to an art museum in L.A. and I wanted to go to the Getty. Unfortunately for me, he sees some things, then he's satisfied and ready to move on to the next activity. We go to L.A. fairly often, so one of these days I'll get back there.
I guessed as much! Still not cool if you're not ready, but We Do What We Must Do...He's lucky to have you as his sister :-) The Getty is easier to return to than the Met; guess you'll have to go back there, too; darn 8^D
Waaaay too many threads today ;-)
Since my own thread has resulted in this one sliding down the page, I feel it's my duty to help it back up ;-) Anybody else coming? Helloooooooo?
On top
My bad David. I was referring to Top Of The Hiil Getty. Haven't been to the one In The Canyon. Sounds interesting. I'm glad you can make it to the meeting. Sorry you won't be there for the other thing.
OK Sacramento group: Are you ready to answer some telephones on Saturday? We are ready to do our part keeping great shows like Rick's available to feed our travel addictions. After our morning gathering, we have to be at our local purveyor of all things Rick at 3:45. We have the 4-8 shift. I will give you the rest of the details on Saturday morning. We need to be sure to have 8 people, and preferably more.... See you Saturday.
I guess we warm up with Andrea Bocelli (4-6). Could be much worse...could be some non-doctor telling me to eat tree roots to cure my 'whatever' :-/ I'm glad our show is Rick's Three-Part Travel Skills Programs; I've got them recorded, but from two different programs. This will clear up some space on my DVR ;-) My DVR is perpetually 97% full... We ARE all wearing neck pouches on the outside of our clothing to look like true RicNics, right? No? Really? No? While the Getty Center looks interesting - especially the setting! - for me it's all about the Villa! David, we'll miss you at our big PBS debut, but I'm glad you get to take your trip.
Yes Eileen. We will be starting off with MY program. I'll be begin by warming up my voice at our meeting. Me me me me.....
I'll be at the meeting at 10:00am but I have to leave at 10:45. Also, I will not be able to work the KVIE phones at 3:45.
Uh oh...Houston (or Kevin), I think we have a problem. I got an email from Susan today that she and Monte won't be at the meeting tomorrow. Monte has to work and she has injured herself and can't drive. She also won't be able to man the phones tomorrow night. Monte possibly can. Now Larry won't be there. We need at least 8 people. So far we have me, Jim, Eileen, Kevin, Margaret (she won't be at the meeting), Kitty (I'm hoping!) and maybe Monte. That is a possibility of 7. I think I'll put a shout out in a separate post to see if anyone else in the area would be interested in participating in the pledge drive. If anyone has someone who is interested let me or Kevin know.
It would be fantastic if you can be there David.
David, Thanks. Traveling at night is easier, less traffic, no sun glare, you pass through LA with ease, and it is cooler so you will get better mpg. See you in the am. Kevin
I'm so proud of you guys for doing that, I wish I could be there. 35 years ago my wife and I met at a pledge drive at KERA Dallas, and we've never looked back. When we were in the States we always helped out at pledge drives, east coast, left coast, Texas. Remember to look busy even if the fones aren't ringing when you are on camera....
Thanks for your support Nigel. I'm really looking forward to this. Without PBS I may not have discovered Rick Steves. Kevin started looking into us being able to do this quite some time ago, and it has taken a long time for it to happen. I'm hoping that this will be the first of many pledge drives so we can show our support of Rick!!
I'll be phone ready.....with my Ernestine voice.
One ringy dingy...
"A one ringy-dingy..." EDIT: Andrea (Bocelli) - great minds think alike?!? And post at the exact same time ;-) I think KVIE can route phone lines to Nigel's house! That's a romantic story, Nigel. Ahhh, I watched KERA my entire life until I was 34; it's THEIR fault for showing "RS' Travels in Europe" that I first became hooked on the idea of independent travel! I'm bringing a nail file so I can fill any down-time on the phones ;-) So sorry, David :-( Well, do what you can... Gotta go start the morning ritual of kitty meds, sub-Q fluids, litter scooping, kitty breakfast, etc., so I can get to Panera!
It's official - we're TV stars. Please - no pushing or shoving; we'll sign an autograph for EACH of you ;-) Rick came through for PBS once again...
And thank YOU David, for canceling your trip to L.A. in order to participate with us.
