Ryan air question

I’m ready to book Ryan air tickets from New Castle to Dublin. We will be checking two 20” eagle creek carryons.
(Empty weighs 7.5 lb) My choices are 10kg or 20kg (22 lb or 44 lbs). Carryons will mostly have clothing and maybe a bottle of scotch.
Without packing the bags now, am I safe to select 10kg for this size bag? I think the 20kg option would be for a large piece of luggage.

Any weight experiences with your luggage and Ryan air?

One other question. We have the option of purchasing RT Air coach tickets from Dublin Airport, which stops in front of our apartment stay. Any reason to not purchase with the plane tickets?

My only suggestion regarding weight would be to weigh all the things you'll be taking and see what the total is. Estimate what a bottle of whisky might weigh and determine from there whether you need 10 kg or 20kg. You only have 14.5 lbs to play with and it's kind of surprising how much shoes weigh. There's probably no reason not to buy the bus tickets ahead of time - if they aren't linked to a specific time and if you know you'll take the bus. On the other hand the tickets aren't that expensive when bought at the kiosk or on the bus and it would give you the option of taking a taxi if you don't feel like the bus.

You could do a test pack with the scotch, clothing, any spare shoes, toiletries of liquids. But the suitcases are going to push the 10kg. I pack carry on only in a 2.26 kg (5lbs) and struggle to keep it between 20-22 pounds. Maybe your smaller capacity will work on your favor.

“Any weight experiences with your luggage and Ryan air?”

Ryanair are notoriously strict when it comes to luggage and weight. They are guaranteed to weigh your bag and if it’s over your allowance, you will be given the choice of throwing items away or pay extra.

Thanks for the feedback.

Turns out that after comparing apples to apples with a 20 kg checked bag, AerLingus was about the same price. So bought tickets on Aer Lingus.

I have flown Ryanair 8 times in the last 6 months. I always buy the carry on suitcase and priority boarding. I’ve never seen Ryanair staff weigh bags when boarding. I think the size/dimensions of the bag are more important, but I have also never seen the gate agents measure a bag.

Ryanair used to be more strict with the weight and size of carryon’s but not anymore, in my experience.

I carry on always, and weigh my suitcase before leaving. I'm always under 22 lbs. The 20 kg. is for huge suitcases that I see so many poor husbands hauling through airports.

If you purchase the Scotch in the airport duty free shopping, it's after you go thru Security and you'll be good to carry it on. Otherwise they may not allow you to carry on any more than 4 ounces of any liquid.

@Emily; the OP is looking to check in a bag, not taking a bag on board as carry on luggage. Otherwise they wouldn’t be able to take their bottle of scotch.
Ryanair, like most if not all other airlines, definitely do check the weight of bags that are checked in.

Well if it's too heavy, you can lighten the load by partaking in the Scotch. Win-Win

@Dutch - the Op says “ Carryons will mostly have clothing and maybe a bottle of scotch.” I think it is a poorly written post leading to confusion.

@Emily; it’s indeed not clearly written, but in her last post the OP writes “ Turns out that after comparing apples to apples with a 20 kg checked bag”.

I think the term “carryon” was used to indicate the size of the bag, not the fact that they were going to take it on board as hand luggage.
