RS Packing Cubes

I'm a big fan of packing cubes. I have a full line of Eagle Creek and the old RS ones.

I've gone back to using the RS convertible and with the sale going on thought I'd upgrade to the new RS cubes especially since they state they fit perfectly inside the bag.

The bag is 21 x 14 x 9. The cubes came today. One is 11-14. The other two are 11 x 7 3/4 each. That means with all three put together it would be 22 x 15.

They are an inch longer in each direction than the bag. With the 'sturdiness" of the cubes, it's harder to get them in than the old cubes.

For those of you that have the new cubes, do you really get them to fit?

Mine fit in RS 21" rolling bag. Also the Eagle Creek 20 Pack -It fits into the bag. I'm packing lighter and more organized and loving it!

Hi Frank. I think your question is relevant for many travelers, and appropriate and valid. Many of us wish to learn to pack our things more efficiently into our travel bag. And many travelers use a carry-on size bag. Some people, at this Traveler's Helpline/General,said the set of three packing cubes from Rick Steves "fit perfectly" in a carry-on-bag. But, I guess that very little other things could be put in the bag. I have a packing cube --Brand name : Columbia -- its dimensions are 13 3/4 inches x 10 inches x 3 3/8 inches. I can put Ten man's undershirts (cotton, short sleeves) in it.
I will try to buy a packing cube of size 11 inches x 7 3/4 inches, and put ten man's undershorts in it. And I will bring ten pairs of socks, and long - sleeve shirts. In my next trip, I will be in Europe a total of ten whole days. Thus, I will not wash any clothes in Europe. I will wear comfortable cotton clothes in Europe, and in the airplanes. I am not bragging about my expertise. I am trying to be helpful. I think the largest size of Rick Steves' Packing cube is too big.

Yesterday, I decided to give the RS packing cubes a try. Filled them up and put them in the bag. No problem. They fit nicely with some give in all directions should I fly an airline with an unusual sizer.

Additionally, I was able to put in a fully packed RS toiletry bag as well as a few other odds and ends.

And all that was in the main compartment of the bag. My daybag went into the larger outside compartment. (I'm a firm believer in one bag travel where everything must fit in one bag. Not one bag and a personal bag. That's two bags.)

With the outside cinch straps, I was able to "thin it down" to about 8 inches. (Although if asked I would suggest the outer cinch straps encompass the entire bag and not just the main packing area.

Not sure if I needed to buy the newer packing cubes as I had a set of the older ones, but I'm an admitted "travel gadget aholic."
