RS My Way + HOHO

I'm planning a late-fall or winter Euro-honeymoon with my new wife. I love the concept of My Way tours. I'd absolutely love it RS transportation were HOHO. That would give us the flexibility to hop-off at any stop we choose, spend a few extra days, and then hop-on the next RS tour bus that comes through. That could turn a 12-day My Way trip into a much more desirable 21-day vacation.

I realize this could be a logistical nightmare for RS tour guides. But they're a very capable bunch. And we all have wifi and phone apps, tear-out guidebook pages, and have the best, like-minded travel companions in all of Europe.

Not workable.
How would lodging be handled if you don't know how many will be in a specific town?

Len, I been playing with that idea in my head for years and years. I think RS could do a test run. It would have to be a tour that runs often. Tourmates would need to decide ahead of time how many days extra in each location. The GAS tour would be perfect.. I would choose to stay in Murren for 5 or 6 days then catch the next tour. it could be a “ Your Way tour” lol... part of it could be part guided and part my way. when you stayed behind for extra few nights it would become “Your way/My way” ..we would absolutely re do the GAS again.. I can see Rick and his staff shaking their heads now....no no no ..

I love the My Way concept, with transportation and lodging logistics. I would love it if I could spend just a few more days in 2 or 3 destinations.

In my made-up scenario, I would decide my itinerary ahead of time based on a My Way tour, like the Alpine Europe in 12 days. Then I look up the published tour dates to determine which tour buses I would need on each leg of the journey. This is basically how HOHO works inside a city.

Sure, it would be more complicated for the tour operator. If they know ahead of time - before the trip is even fully booked - if passengers are onboarding or offboarding at any given stop, it really shouldn't be that difficult to manage variable bus occupancy. For example, we already know that the buses are normally at half-occupancy, so there is a little bit of wiggle room there. Lodging and dining planning might be an add-on option, unless we take on that responsibility ourselves. They could manage and book each leg of the tour as a separate event. I'm just throwing it out there; I'm no expert on tour operations.

Putting a space craft in orbit around another planet probably uses less computer resources than what you propose.

Holding your breath waiting for this to happen, may be detrimental to your health.

Take the wheels off the pavement and exchange them for movement along a track. You should seriously consider just traveling by train and bring along a RS guidebook to have the information and options at each location that’s in his My Way Tour. This gives you the flexibility that you desire, and you could add additional locations without needing to stay exactly along the tour route.

And dare I say more romantic to not be with a group on a bus?

Yes, I don't really see the advantage of such a tour. All you'd really be using the RS organization for is seating you on certain buses at certain times. Why not just get your own train (or bus) tickets? What am I missing?

Len,

I doubt that's ever going to happen as it would be an impossible logistical nightmare. How could they plan for how many people would be hopping off or hopping on at a given location or plan accommodations.

If you're looking for a 21-day time frame, the easiest solution would be to take a shorter RS My Way tour along with some self guided travel before and / or after the tour. That's a method I've been using for many years, and it has worked well for me.
