RS in Chicago

It was just announced that Rick Steves will be one of the featured speakers at this year's Travel and Adventure Show in Chicago (Rosemont). The show is Jan. 26-27, and he will speak both days, on two topics - Europe and Italy. Details can be found at www.adventureexpo.com. I go every year (RS was there two years ago, also). Anybody else from the Illinois area planning on going?

For anyone interested, today's Chicago Groupon is running a 2-for-1 deal on entry tickets. Normally they are $9/person, but with the Groupon you get entrance for 2 people for $9. This deal looks like it will run on Groupon for another 2 1/2 days (from the time of this posting) and it's good for either day of the show.

My son just informed me that he and his wife want to take off for that weekend, and could I take the kids (my favorite travel partners) So, I think I will pile them in the car and head off for the Travel show... sounds like fun and just FYI all kids 16 and under are free.

Hmm...I'll have to seriously consider driving over to Rosemont for this one. He's been in Des Moines for the big UN World Food Prize before and did a PBS speaking engagement here last year, which I missed because of other commitments. Heck, it's worth the trip just to have tapas at Café Iberico on La Salle that evening.

The last time he was here, I ran into him in one of the show aisles before his first talk. We chatted about what he calls "quite a thriving little community" here on the Helpline. His talks are packed, though, so there are obviously a lot of other RS fans out there who don't hang out here.
