The RS Travel Store lists the bag's weight as "just over 7 lbs." Based on that, I expected the bag to weigh under 7 1/2 lbs. The bag I received weighs 7 lbs.12 ounces. I would not have ordered the bag had I thought it would weigh nearly 8 lbs. According to RS customer service, the extra 3/4 lb. is a slight weight variance, to be expected in manufacturing. I would not quibble over a few ounces, but I don't consider 12 to be slight. I then checked the Kiva website where the weight is listed as 7.1 lbs, reinforcing my opinion that it was not unreasonable to have thought the bag would weigh much less. Any future buyer should be aware that the RS company seems to have a very broad interpretation of "just over 7 lbs", and you may be stuck with a bag far heavier than the weigh claim implies. If a bag's weight is a critical factor, be conscious of the fact that considerable weight inconsistencies exist and are acceptable to them.
