Andrew,

That appears to be a fairly straightforward trip. This is one method you could use......

  • EasyJet flight from Manchester to Hamburg (2H:40M, current prices listed at ~£42.99 PP).
  • Train from Hamburg Flughafen (airport) to Kiel (time about 1H:45M, one change at Hamburg Hbf).

If you decide to book with EasyJet, be sure to read their Terms & Conditions carefullly, especially related to luggage. They have a strict rule of ONE carry-on item per passenger, of the approved size.

Hi,

Aside from the flying option, you also can take the ferry going from Harwich to Cuxhaven. It used to be Harwich to Hamburg, which is the one I took. Take the regional train from Cuxhaven to Hamburg Hbf. where you transfer to an ICE train for Kiel Hbf. If you don't have the time, then flying is the better of the two options.

Harwich-Cuxhaven was discontinued years ago. And last September Harwich to Esbjerg in Denmark was also discontinued.

So you would have to fly to either Hamburg airport from where there is a bus service to Kiel (about 1 hour journey time) or to Billund in Denmark.

Thanks for the information. That discontinued ferry connection....a real pity, isn't it?

The majority of the ferry services between the UK and Germany or Scandinavia have gone over the last few years, killed off by budget airlines.
