Just curious how travelers/posters from the RS helpline are doing in Rome with the freezing cold & snow.
Linda, They apparently got hit with 20" of snow in Rome, so I imagine that brought most transportation to a grinding halt. I doubt that many in Rome would equip their vehicles with snow tires, and the Motorinos wouldn't fare well in heavy snow. I've seen news reports on Italian TV from other areas in Italy over the last few days, and it looks like Rome isn't the only problem area. It was strange to see trains arriving at Florence SMN, with the tracks and trains covered in snow. I was there a few months ago, and it was MUCH different then. Hopefully the snow won't last long.
Personally I'd like to hear from people traveling in Venice. Are the canals really freezing over? Seems this unprecedented storm is reeking havoc throughout Europe with over 220 people dead because of it. Keep safe everyone!
Here are some live shots of Venice. It doesn't look like the canals are freezing over: http://www.earthtv.com/en/camera-destination/venice-italy
Yes, I saw a news clip tonight based out of London and wondered. So sad about the loss of life.
Yes, snow in Rome. I saw it on NBC news tonight. Traffic there is collapsing just like in Seattle.
