Rome->Paris via Turin or Milan?

We will be taking a long day train from Rome to Paris. I'd like the most scenic route. Any advice re: Turin vs Milan?

Please don't comment on flying instead of taking the train.

Hi,
The route via Milan and Lausanne (or Geneva depending on train times) has the edge for me: beautiful views in the Valais and along Lake Geneva.
But via Turin isn't too bad either, you also ride through the Alps for a while (but not through the most scenic valleys). Time wise, the Turin route is faster by about an hour, but it was interrupted earlier this month after a landslide. Not sure if/when it is reinstated.

Distances in Europe can be greater than many people realize. And I don't care for train rides over 4 hours.

We have taken both routes. I think going through Switzerland is a bit nicer and a nicer train, at least the one we took though it’s been 3 years. We like a long train day when we have time. You can move around, get a meal, and enjoy more space than on a plane. No security waiting and you arrive in the center of the city! Flying might be faster from airport to airport, but by the time you add in transfer from city to airport and airport to city plus security and waiting, that 8 hours is about equivalent total journey time.

Thank you for the comments that answered my question. In the end, it will come down to the best schedule. I thought Milan would be better as it is further east and more likely to get in some good Alpine scenery. I really wanted to go the Bernina route, but it eats up too much time and money for this short of trip.

This is my 5th or 6th trip to Europe. I went to school in France and did an internship in Switzerland. So, although it has been awhile, I'm not a newbie. I WANT the long train ride. I WANT to see things from the ground, even if it's by fast train. I'm not asking for advice on whether to ride or fly. Just which route gives me better scenery.

Both routes go through Milan - Milan is hard to avoid. The route via Turin may be cheaper, one international ticket instead of two, but if you're booking way ahead then the differences can be less pronounced.
