Rome - Eateries

Hello, my husband & I will be in Rome for 3 days in mid November (prior to taking a 12 day cruise). We are simple people when it comes to meals. We are looking for inexpensive places to eat - but good food. NOT the "fifth quarter" stuff. Sorry, not our "cup of tea". Our hotel is near the Trevi Fountain & Termini Station. Any suggestions? Also, were can we get some really good pastries in Rome?

Thank You

Ron In Rome has a great explanation of the different type of eating establishments in Rome. www.roninrome.com. Rick makes note of some places in his book as well. I'd also suggest using your search engine and typing in "food in rome blogs". You'd be amazed of what people are blogging about these days. I just read a great blog on restaurants in Paris.

Oh I forgot to mention if you look on this websites Graffiti Wall under Eating and Drinking you'll find "Mouthwatering Italy," Been updated and you'll find some recommendations there.

I would highly highly recommend Ristorante 34 to anyone by the Spanish Step. The staff and owner Niciolo are fantastic. For the area prices are reasonable and no different than what you would find elsewhere short of going to McDonalds. Food is great though.

This is NOT by your hotel. So you can either walk or take the metro to the Largo Argentina stop. Then explore the area known as the old Jewish Ghetto.
When I stayed there I went here daily to satisfy my sweet tooth. http://www.ladolceroma.com/ing/home.html Fabulous!

By the way, on your computer if you use Google Maps and type in the address of your hotel or just type in Trevi Fountain Rome then use the satellite function you'll be able to see where your hotel is located and what's nearby. Use the street view option, click on "what's nearby" and type in restaurants.

Amazing thing these computers and please let us know what the "fifth quarter" stuff is. Our collective curiosity is peaked.

We stayed near the termini station and ate at this place four days in a row while in Rome! It's small, and nothing fancy, but they have the best pizza ever (try the quattro fromagio)! For 6 or 7E, i know you'll be happy. they also have a good pasta menu too (good prices. mom and pop cooking! On the outside, you'll just see a big sign in blue letters that says Pizzaria. Cucina Romana da Dino, 10 Vid dei Mille, Rome.

"fifth quarters" explained by Rick are: brains, tails, intestines, etc. "left over" parts of animals. No offense to anyone but, EWWWWWW
