Okay. I asked a question before and everyone was awesome so I figured I would ask a tougher one! I just booked (but can cancel if needed) a day trip from Rome and wanted to get some opinions. I have to take the train to Naples and a private car will meet me there. We will tour Sorrento, Positano, Amalfi and Ravello. I am scheduled to do this on 2/18/08. All of the pics I see of that area are incredible but I fear that during the time I am there all of the trees will be dead and everything brown (not that I expect full blooms!!). I don't mind a chill - thats not an issue (I live in NY so 40-50 degrees in Feb is a welcome change). I guess the main question is - is Feb a bad time to see those areas? Thanks.
You'll see the ocean and the beautiful towns. It really depends on the weather. If it's dark and rainy, I wouldn't go. If it's sunny, sure! You'll just miss the bouganveilla.
I only travel to italy during feb or march. It is the best time of year to beat the crowds and get the best price. I think you will love your day trip Naples, Sorrento, Amalfi coast, Positano and Ravello. You are going during a cool month and they are "beach" travel spots but you will only miss the crowds and not miss any of the beauty this area has to offer. You did not mention if you were going to the beautiful Island of Capri. If so you will not be able to visit Annacapri as it is closed to tourist off season and visiting the Blue Grotto in Feb is also not possible. You will have all the beauty to enjoy without the crowds. Lucky you have planned this wonderful trip, enjoy every second. It is a trip of a lifetime of beautiful memories. Try to visit the beautiful ceramic shops along the coast. They will gladly ship your purchases home for you althought the american dollar is not strong unfortunatly you will have to probably overpay. ENJOY
