I would not try this. Too many widespread destinations for 10 days, especially traveling by train and given the distances involved. If you insist on doing 3 cities in 10 days fly between your destinations, and even then you would spend 3 of your 10 days in airports.

Barcelona to Rome: 20+ hours by train.

Rome to Athens: might be doable in 25 hours by combination of train and ferry. Attempting this by train alone would be an incredible slog, probably through Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Hercegovina, Serbia, and Bulgaria--not to mention a huge chunk of Greece.

It makes no sense to combine those cities unless you are doing it for business purposes or due to family connections. Personally, I wouldn't want to combine even two of them because there are so many other interesting places to see in each of those countries.

If you must proceed, flying is the only sensible option.

Use seat61.com to answer all questions train and ferry though I'm afraid you won't like the answers from Athens to Rome in particular. Use rometorio.com for basic travel times and options. But, anyway you slice it, those are time consuming cities to connect.

Welcome to the forum! I wouldn't do those three cities in ten days, to far apart. If you must do all three, you could fly more efficiently than by train.

rometorio.com is a good place to start planning.

Hello jameela.ali1. I recommend : Travel in Italy, only. After being at Rome, 2 or 3 whole days, you might like traveling via trains to Orvieto, Florence, Lucca (a hill town), and the Cinque Terre. And fly from Milan airport toward your home.

The only reasonable way to get from one to another is to fly, and that will use up most of a day each time. That leaves you about 2.5 days in each city, barely enough to get oriented and see a couple of major sights.

Split your time between just Barca and Roma. Save Athens for a trip when you have time for the islands as well.

I would use my 10 days in a single country, I think, but barring that I would choose cities that are closer together or cut one city from your list. I assume you have done research and have decided that these 3 cities in particular are the ones you really want to see. If that's the case, choose 2 of them and really get to see them. I would vote Rome and Barcelona and I'd fly between them.

If you want to pair 2 cities by train for a 10 day trip, Barcelona and Paris work nicely.

www.skyscanner.com is good for budget airlines selling tickets on a one-way basis. if you are a transcontinental traveler, fly into one city and home from another using a multi-destination search function.

There is no train connection between Rome and Athens or Barcelona and Athens. You would have to go part of the way by bus. I am afraid that 10 days would not be enough just for surface travel between these cities not counting time to see them. The only option would be to fly but having only 10 days you would spend substantial part of your time at the airports and on planes. I agree with others that you should do just two of your cities or better yet, concentrate on one country.
