Hello,
I've searched for info on this area of Romania with very little success.
Bucharest will be our home base May 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th.
Has anyone been to some of the cave complexes throughout the region of Colţi and can recommend a tour, or guide, that will take us.
Any other suggestions of site must sees in or day trips out of Bucharest would be greatly appreciated. Any tour companies you recommend would be awesome!

Hi, Teresa, two friends of mine and I were in Romania last September and October, and we hired a guide who took us around a lot of the country for two weeks. He was excellent and I would highly recommend him.
That said, his base is in Maramures, so he's up in the north. If you're looking for a guide for just a day, it may not be worth it to have him come down to the Bucharest area. With regards to day trips, I was in Bucharest for a total of four nights at the beginning of the tour and then several nights after the tour was over. I know the other two were there for about at least a week, if not a little bit more. We found plenty to do in Bucharest itself. I really like the city a lot, and there's a lot of things to see and do there.
That said, I know that some people go to Peles Castle and Bran Castle as day trips from Bucharest. We chose to see those when we were staying in Brasov, which I really loved. I would highly recommend visiting there if you have any time. It was a wonderful small city and just so charming. In fact, it was one of my favorite places in Romania. It's a medium-sized city, but it has the feel of a lovely town.

I am going to Romania with Gate 1 in 3 weeks so I read your trip report. When you mentioned in Brasov there was a bear sanctuary my engine went into overdrive! My husband would love to go there. I have done some research and he has already booked a tour for there. I read the forum most days - you never know what you will learn.
