rolling suitcase

due to surgery I can't use a backpack any more, i am thinking of either the Swany suitcase, which has the 360 degree swivel wheels, or another kind with that same feature. what colors are seen these days, or is black color the safest bet to not stand out. is 24" too large for independent travel...

what's the best color to not look dorky?

I stopped buying black suitcases as it was just too annoying trying to pick out the right suitcase on at the baggage carousel. Wheels are great, you see them everywhere. However, I'd stay away from those with the swivel. They seem to break down more often than the ones with two wheels.

Personally, I do want to check in my suitcase so I don't have to be so extremely careful not to pack anything that could cause trouble at the security check. For the size of the suitcase it needs to be comfortable enough that you could carry it a few flights of stairs.

I would NOT go with four wheel swivel at all. They work great on nice, smooth, flatl surfaces -- seldom seen in Europe. Those four little wheels are going to fall and catch in every little hole and crack. And there are lots of holes, cracks, curbs, cobble stones, etc. in European streets and sidewalks. I would get the standard two wheel rolling bag with the biggest wheels you can get. Our rolling bags have four inch wheels, I think. A 24" bag is big and you would never work as carryon and most importantly you will be tempted to take too much stuff and weight. It would be pain, especially with a bad back hauling the bag on a train. I don't think the color is important.

Red seems to be the newest color in luggage. I see them in all the stores. Almost as many as black. Just pick a color you like and go with it. Rick's rolling bag seems to work well for many who post here. Personally, I've never used a roller---

I have been researcing it, the swany, that's the kind invented by the polio survivor, some of the luggage models have a seat, and it rolls along side you, you don't have to drag it behind, which would be great for me, but before I invest in some, I was hoping someone else might have used it. I can't handle dragging something behind. Has anyone used one of their line of suitcases? Thanks!

I am looking for one with wheels too. Back troubles really mess you up as far as not being able to do the backpack style.

Never heard of the Swany suitcase. I think 24" might be a bit too big for me, so I am looking for no bigger than 22".

Swivel wheels may be tough on the streets of Europe. Remember, you can take a rolling suitcase and instead of dragging it behind you, you can push it in front of you. Works just as well. I just tried it.

STick to 21" or less if you want to carry-on.
