Does anyone have any experience travelling with backpacks that have wheels? Are there any comfortable ones?
Thanks for your input.
Karen, see the thread "backpack or wheels" posted in the last day or two in the "to the boot" section of the helpline--it discusses this.
I use the Eagle Creek Latitude 22 (about four years old). It's OK but having both rollers and pack straps is a compromise. The bag is relatively heavy because of the wheels and has less space because of the pack straps. I hardly ever use it as a backpack unless I need my hands free. As a roller, it's just fine and I haven't had trouble in Europe.
I have a Victorinox standard traveler 22" wheeled backpack, and I LOVE it! It seems a lot of people don't care for the combo, and wind up using predominantly either the wheels or the straps, but I find I use both about equally. I love having both options, and I wouldn't trade it for anything. It weighs a bit over 6 lb, and is extremely comfortable. It's the perfect carry-on size. It's also very sturdy. I highly recommend it!
I purchased a rolling back pack and everytime I turned around I was hitting something with it. So decided not to use it for European travel and glad I did...there are some tight spots on trains, trams, etc.
Apparently, the one I purchased was too wide for me.
