We are interested in doing a river cruise vacation similar to Viking River Cruises but with a company that Germans would use. Any suggestions? (I'm also posting this in the Germany forum).
I think it is interesting (amusing) that you assume Germans would not use Viking.
My cousin in Germany said he doesn't know anyone who has used Viking. His friends and co-workers use Arosa. I'm just wanting to compare price/quality with other companies. I also would like to travel with Germans, eat local cuisine, etc.. which I think would be more common on a European line.
My German friend highly recommends AMA Waterways. She is a travel agent and has been on all of the river cruise lines. She said AMA is the best. They have larger cabins, so fewer passengers and better service.
We had a good Danube cruise with Lueftner Cruises. Ours was part of an alumni tour for about six US universities so all the passengers were Americans, but the officers and crew were mostly German or Austrian, and I presume most of their cruises have European passengers. The ship, food, service etc. were all very good.
I think AMA might be another possibility. My impression is that Viking is full of Americans. I doubt that you'll find a cruise without any of our compatriots, but I agree that an international group of passengers would be more interesting, especially if you know other languages well enough to communicate.
Hi,
I'll post the phone # here as well:
Adler-Schiffe, Tel# (0)18 05/ 12 33 44. They advertise: "Kreuzfahrer für einen Tag." Using a German website would give you info on river cruises inside Germany on the Rhine, Danube, Elbe, Oder, etc that cater to German audiences.
