Considering doing a river cruise. Seems they are geared to older ages. Are there any cruises lines/trips that a family with a 23 year old would enjoy?
We took a Viking River Cruise from Basel to Amsterdam. There were people of all ages, but definitely it was an older crowd. There was a family with adult children that were having a nice time. I would suggest the 23 yr old look at the itineraries for the various companies and options for excursion. To some extent, it depends on the person and their attitude. We were on a RS tour and there was a couple in their 40s that made it quite clear that they only wanted to socialize/hang out with the younger people on the tour. In our experience, there are many older/retired people that are "young at heart" and enjoyable to be with.
I believe I saw that Samantha Brown did an Amawaterways cruise and it did seem like there were younger folks on that cruise.
I would do the Avalon "Legendary Danube with 2 Nights in Prague" Except when you get on the boat, he doesnt. He does 3 more nights in Prague then flies down to Budapest to meet you when you arrive. Just dont ask what he was up to all that time. I am only half kidding.
We have done 8 river cruises and yes, many of the fellow passengers are seniors.
If you go during the Summer you will get more younger persons with children not in school.
There are many great river cruise companies and we have used several. It is best to compare what you get for your $$ with several cruise lines.

Our last river cruise was with Gate 1 Travel and it was excellent. Also, the price was unbeatable.
Were currently on an Emerald Cruise from Amsterdam to Basel. Emerald advertises itself as a line for younger people. Some of the excursions are listed as 'active excursions' which include bike rides and hikes. However they still have to slow down for the slowest person as I discovered on a bike ride today. My wife and I are 60 and we are definitely in the youngish minority on the ship. There are a few couples around our age and one family with two 18ish year old boys. There's not a lot for them to do on the ship that I think my 20 somethings would enjoy.
Look at some Youtube videos by ‘very unofficial travel guides’. He has done a few river cruises, some on lesser known, less expensive lines
