Rick Steves Travel Wash

Has anyone tried R/S Travel wash for clothes and face and shampoo for hair?

Yes, it works great but you can buy travel size packets of Tide which will do the same and take up less room. You can find it in the travel/trial size area of your Fred Meyer store in Brookings.

I don't use Rick's travel wash for my hair -- only clothes.

And your face?

I bring along a small sized bar of ivory for everything.

Jim,

I've used the RS Travel Wash for clothes on a number of trips, and it works quite well and doesn't take up much room in the Pack. It's concentrated so not much is needed to wash a few items in the sink.

I've never used it for shampoo. If I'll be checking my main Backpack, I usually pack along a large bottle of Shower Gel & Shampoo (already have a new bottle of Dial packed for this year's trip). It's probably not as good for hair as a "proper" shampoo, but it works well enough while travelling.

Cheers!

I have only used it for clothes, and it worked fine. This year I plan to buy the little dry "leaves" of soap. It is lighter, takes up less room and doesn't have to go in the quart bag for liquids.

I bought travel soaps from REI recently. They come in leaves and are about the size and weight of a dental floss package.

I chose one each of body wash and laundry soap because I don't like packing soap or laundry detergent. Shampoo is easy to get in small bottles so I just use those.

REI also has the small "Campmor" environmentally friendly camp soap concentrate. A little goes a long way on the camp site or traveling - great to wash dishes, gear, clothes, hair, or the dog. Its conc. so a few drops works. I empty out the small hotel shampoo bottle and pour 1-2 oz from the 5oz bottle and take that along to euroland incase the hotels dont have any. Many today have the dispensers IN or On the showers/sinks walls.
