Rick Steves Travel Forum SEARCH broken down again

Well well well

After a couple of years of useless searches around here, two or three months ago the new search was unveiled and worked a treat. It was excellent, and once we were told after the initial response to click on travel forum and then click on within the last 6 months - it were fabulous.

It seems to have gone for a Burton.

In the last half hour I have tried at least a dozen different searches for threads that I remember well having been posted in the last couple of months.

I keep getting no results, and before I click on the 6 months, most of the results are 7 years, 4 years, or more older.

It is sick, needs to lie down, take an aspirin, put a cool moist cloth over its eyes, and try again in the morning.

Sorry, Nigel. But what is the origin of "gone for a Burton"? I can gather its meaning from context, but I was wondering what the phrase comes from.

Oh, I am really showing my age because I remember that saying "gone for a Burton". I think it was an RAF way of saying a pilot was lost. Nigel? What say you?

Nigel, I tried a couple of searches and filtered by within last 6 months and all of the responses that came up were within the last 6 months so it appeared to work properly for my searches. Maybe it's been fixed since you tried? What were your searches that didn't work?

Nigel, have you cleared your cache recently? Sometimes that solves problems like that. No, I don't know why, the Webmaster told me and it worked for me, but with a slightly different problem.

Looks like some astute eyes caught us in the middle of a content re-indexing. Rarely (well, this was the first time since production launch) we need to re-index our content to take advantage of some nifty new features. Most of our content types are super quick, but the Forum can take a few minutes to get caught up.

Sorry about that! Next time we'll have it start indexing the newest topics first rather than the oldest, so the impact should be minimized.

Thanks very much, Nikky

It was just as I thought - it just needed to lie down, take an aspirin, put a cool moist cloth over its eyes, and try again in the morning.

Much better....

If a holiday is superior to a vacation, why have I been so stupid all these years?
