Rick Steves Tour bus comfort?

How comfortable are the seats on R/S tour buses? my wife likes a lot of lumbar support. Also is it hard to get extra pillows inEuropean Hotels? Thanks again!!! :-)

Jim,

The Coach seats on the Buses used by RS tours have all been VERY comfortable in my experience. Full size coaches are used, and as they're only about half full everyone can have their own seat. No crowding at all! I've never really looked at the seats in terms of "lumbar support" but I've always been comfortable.

I've never asked for extra pillows in any of the Tour Hotels, but I don't imagine that would be a problem.

You might send an E-mail to the helpful RS tour department, as I'm sure they would be able to provide the best information.

Cheers!

Jim, Rick's Tour buses are the same type used by every major tour company.

Having spent hundreds of hours sitting in them, I can honestly say they are more comfortable than airline coach seats.

Depending on the make of coach, some have foot rests, some recline, but none that I know of have adjustable lumbar support.

I found the seats very comfortable- typical coach seats I guess. The bus we were on had seats that reclined slightly, but no other adjustments. The best part was that because of the small group we each basically had two seats to ourselves so you could easily stretch out or sit at an angle for more leg room. Maybe she could bring a small pillow with her just for the extra lumbar support.

Never asked for extra pillows but I imagine that is not an unusual request.

There is a seat cushion available from Oregon Aero (Scapoose Oregon) that is made of memory foam, used by pilots and NASA. It is available in 2 inch and 4 inch in thickness. It has a zip off/zip on lumbar support. Being a pilot, I highly recommend them. Mine cost about $125, but are probably higher now. I use it in my auto, on busses, trains, taxis, rental cars, airports, and airlines. The only down side, it is easy to get up and walk away without taking it along....I know the hard way... from experience. I advise that if you take it on a trip, take one of those slinky lines that the casinos give you for your "club card" and hook one end to your belt loop, or to your carry-on bag, and the other end to the handle strap on the seat cushion. These seat cushions are worth every cent, and I wouldn't go anywhere without mine (the 2nd one!) Dan

I second the idea of emailing RS Tours with the questions in regard to the particular tour you are taking.

Additional pillows shouldn't be a problem. Sometimes they are provided without request.
