Used Rick's book to plan my Italy trip and loved it. Now I want to go to NYC. Obviously Rick doesn't have guidebooks for American cities, but I'm looking for something similar. A guidebook with similar values as Rick: Quality over Quantity, reviews of eateries and hotels from someone whose actually been there and slept there, etc.
Any suggestions?
I like Lonely Planet guidebooks as much as I like Rick's. (He recommends them, too.) LP has both a condensed and a detailed guidebook for New York. I'm going to New York, Boston, and Washington, DC, next week. While I didn't buy the LP quidebooks for those cities, I found lots of very helpful information on the Destinations section of the LP Web site.
