Rick Steves Plastic Picnic Set

Ten years ago I bought one of these - two each knife , fork and spoon, heavy-ish white plastic contained in a transparent tube. I took it on one or two trips to Europe without a problem.

Now, as then, am only taking a carry-on, for the US to London and two intra-Europe flights. Has anyone had trouble taking these through security lately? It wouldn't be a big deal to leave them home or throw them away at a checkpoint, but would like to be prepared. And I know I can buy plastics there, but will be flying off and on for the entire three week trip.

Any thoughts?

I had the same set along with a corkscrew. I had problems going through security at London Heathrow on my way to Milan.
The corkscrew was taken away along with my plastic knife with a serrated edge. TSA didn't seem to care about these items when I started the trip in Portland OR. After that I purchased a cheap knife in Europe to cut up food items and left it there before I came home.

Yes, I made it through US security but had the corkscrew confiscated when traveling back from Italy.

Heathrow is always a problem for everything! When we were coming home last weekend through there I purposely checked and rechecked my carryon. They still swiped it left from the xray machine. I had a small jar of Zatar seasoning but they had to check it wasn’t a liquid. They always seem to find something.

I like to keep the plastic/wood utensils provided with any in-flight meals. Or there are the plastic/wood utensils at airport eating places. On the street, you can pick up others at snack stands or fast food places, and so on.

We had no problems taking them through security, but the corkscrew broke when we used it.

I travel with a set of Lexan cutlery. I've been pulled out of line for a lot of things at Heathrow security but never the cutlery.
